On my recent discovery of Silom village, the Thai girlfriend and I decided to dine at one of the 2 restaurants located there. We opted for the Silom Village Restaurant (as opposed to the 'Ruen Thep' restaurant).

From what I could make out, the restaurant has 2 or 3 different seating areas all on the ground floor of the village. We decided to sit relatively close to the stage, where Thai music was played on the Ranad Ek (Thai xylophone) and Thai dancing was performed.

All the dishes we ordered were tasty and very nicely presented. We ordered Shrimp cakes, deep fried bubble fish?? (that's what the menu had it down as anyway), a seafood hotpot, and the fantastic deep fried shrimp meat served with plum sauce, followed by a banana split to share for dessert.

This little lot, along with 4 (non alcoholic) drinks came to around 1,600Bt. The final bill was bumped up by the 10% service charge and 7% Government tax being tagged on at the end. I don't care much for restaurants that carry out this practice.

One other small gripe I have is that the hot towels offered to us, normally something I would consider to be a nice touch, were also charged for on the final bill.

On the plus side, there is a vast menu of almost every Thai dish imaginable, along with some Japanese and spaghetti dishes, steaks, and even burgers.

The drinks were also reasonable with cocktails at 130Bt and a large Singha beer running at 140Bt, a jug of Singha draught was 180Bt. I also noticed that you could take your own wine for a corkage fee of 200Bt per bottle.

It's a nice place for tourists to go, the food and entertainment is good, but I know enough nice restaurants located closer to me, serving equally as good food at a more favourable prices for me to be returning here soon.

Overall Rating: 3
