1 Review for “Au Bon Pain Thong Lo J-Avenue”

Probably my favorite place to go and lounge with a cup of coffee in all of Bangkok. Location, location, location. And it doesn’t get much better than this. The J-Avenue center is smack dab in the middle of Thong Lo which is one of my favorite neighborhoods in all of BKK.

I’ve spent countless hours relaxing here and engaging in some of the best people watching to be had outside of Khao San Road. This location is very often frequented by the ‘upper crust’ and if you enjoy spotting beautiful people, this is the place for you.

The large outdoor seating area lends this Au Bon Pain a healthy dose of the ’sidewalk cafe’ feeling that is too often absent with other coffee shops here in BKK.

Free up a few hours and check it out.

I had the misfortune of learning about their "minimum customers" policy. That is, if less then 3 customers purchase tickets to a given movie, they cancel the movie. Not sure if this is a standard policy in Thai theaters but it's totally ridiculous. You have a customer that pays their way to the theater to watch a movie at a time advertised by the movie theater, and then they cancel it? Yes, they refunded my 120 baht ticket, and the 50 baht I spent on popcorn and soda, but still. I surely will not go to this theater again, especially during daytime hours. Too risky. Safer bet going to MBK, Siam Paragon, or Emporium for sure. The Plaza looked promising too as the Mall pretty much revolves around the movie theaters. There are movie posters throughout the mall, many waiting areas showing movie previews, and some premium options with their karaoke theaters. It's also less expensive overall than the big mall options. However, it's also a bit dated and rundown. I wish I could comment on the "inside the theater" experience but didn't get in and will not be going back. Any business with such a selfish policy that disregards the customer so is not worth spending money in.

Had a semi-decent breakfast here one morning when I woke up too late to get my free one at my hotel. There were two other westerners in the place picking at their breakfast, reading their papers and happy not to be making conversation (presumably english) I thought the prices were high and not great value but the food was ok

The last Bond film with Craig was better than this one for sure. The gadgets were missing and that was a shame. Apart from the cool computer and phone stuff there were no gadgets. Seems they are trying to make the stories more believable but that won't work cause the stunts are so over the top it is not even funny. Craig is cool. Just watch Layer Cake to be sure but they need to tighten up these stories. This Bond is not having as much lady fun, seems to be unhappy all the time and not creating a mantra for himself. I enjoyed the flick but if you dig deep the flaws are all over the place. Bummer since Craig and the big budget they are throwing at this should make for a better film.

Called in here a few Sundays ago to check out the Roast Dinners. I was with three Thai lady friends who all bravely decided to go 'Farang' and order the roast dinner themselves. In the bar a Grand Prix race was showing on the TVs. The TV's were turned up to full volume. Almost nobody was talking in the pub because they couldn't hear each other. Having been seated directly below one of the TV's and realised that we were going to have trouble talking, I moved us closer to the door where at least we had a fighting chance of exchanging a few words. We ordered out roast dinners. I have to say, the food was quite excellent - succulent slabs of roast beef and all the trimmings you could imagine and also, a nice touch, an individual gravy boat each so we could top up the gravy as we ate. Eventually, some guy in a really fast car beat the others who were in cars that weren't quite as fast and the TV volume was turned down. A matter of timing I expect - if I had gone there when the TV's weren't at full volume I could have easily given this place a 4+ just for the food but the noise levels really pissed me off. The portions were huge and my companions, not used to such heavy food, couldn't finish - but they all said they enjoyed it.

Freezing cold like many Thai theaters this theater is one of the coldest. I don't understand it, clueless management. Froze my butt off. The seats are also small, older, and very close together. The sound system, loud, very loud. The price however is pretty cheap at around 120 baht a ticket but you definitely get what you pay for.

Extreme disappointment. At the end of this movie I was upset that they failed again with Daniel Craig. He's an amazing actor and has been in some quality films but put him in a Bond film with a boring plot and it's what it is, a failure. I don't remember him smiling once or exhibiting that Bond charm. It was the depressed Bond out for revenge and that's all. Normally, Bond is saving the planet from some serious threat. I won't give anything away but it's just so minor and insignificant in this one. There was also no Q and fun gadgets, and enough with the Bond Martini. The made a very obvious point of telling you the ingredients a few times in this one. Who cares? Give me a story and some of the old Bond antics and thrills. I don't need to know how many measures of Gin are in the Martini. There was action but it was predictable and the stunts were again borderline unbelievable. This was the worst Bond film I've seen to date and that includes the Timothy Dalton one's. Horrible.

Popped into the larger of the two facing shops last night, and noticed that the smaller, original location is no more - the building is completely empty. It was my first visit in a while, since I find the food rather bland and the prices unrealistically high, but sometimes you just need a burrito, and there are precious few options late at night. A takeaway large burrito with both cheese and sour cream cost around 255 baht including taxes last time I was here, which I didn't feel was great value. Last night the same item cost me 309 baht, with rude service to boot, and has if anything become even more bland. I won't be back.

Have stayed in the platinum suit many times when staying for weeks. It has a kitchen, livingroom and seperate bedroom. It is a bit worn, but very good size bed, space, bathroom. The staff will make sure you are taken care of. This was my Fav hotel for 3 years but now with many new places springing up, i have moved to others. If you are on business or want some place that feels like home this is a good place to stay.

When it come to local beef, good value and decent service I think this place is pretty good. Sure there are more expensive options in town but I think the top quality steaks here are quite tasty and the family farm has been around a long time. There take away dairy products are also good.

I ate here for the first time over the weekend with friends - we avoiding the generally high prices by taking advantage of a decently-priced set lunch menu. There's a choice of appetisers, pastas, main courses and desserts, with prices varying depending on whether you opt for two or three courses, and whether you order a pasta course or a regular main course. From memory, the prices were 349 baht for two courses with a pasta, 399 for two courses with a main, 449 for three courses with a pasta, and 499 baht for three courses with a main. The food was excellent, and the service exemplary. Not for the budget-conscious perhaps, but a great find for food fans.
