Out of many Bangkok tailors, you will find the legendary Savilerow in a chic hotel or sleek mall. But don't be fooled. These digs in humble, a tailoring hub, have hosted everyone from U.S. Embassy to soccer stars, movies stars , commissioners such as the Peter Thorn, elija woods, and Michael Di Rhodes. This former uniform tailor to the Bangkok hotel staffs. These tailors also make annual trips to Europe and North America. (Schedule updates are listed on the Web site). About two months ago, I went to visit Savile Row Clothiers, the travelling Bangkok tailors who happened to be one of the few with Newyork on their itinerary. I wanted to give them a shot to see if they would be a cheaper alternative to my tailor here in New york for basic items. I made a post about it, and a few people PM'd me asking for a review of the clothes once I received them because they were also thinking of using this service. This morning I woke up to find a snow covered box on my doorstep with Savile Row Clothiers printed across the top. So here's my review: Fabric: The selection of fabrics of available through Savile Row clothiers is quite extensive in terms of swatches available, For my experiment, I decided to go with a basic black with grey pine fabric which was Super 130's, but struck me as an average quality fabric in terms of appearance, softness, etc. Normally suits start at $150, but the one I selected was $350. The fitting: I went to their store at Rose hotel where it was crammed with people looking through swatch books and waiting in line to get fitted. I decided to remove a little bit of the guesswork by bringing my favorite fitting jacket and pants, a Hugo Boss Eagle jacket. I asked the tailor to use my measurements, but recreate the fit of those items as much as possible, which is quite trim. He happily measured me and my garments and made adjustments for where he thought my garments needed to be tweaked. He even measured the proportions of the lapels to make sure they were spot on. The results: Nine months on from my first Savile Row suit, I had tried six suits from other avenues before returning. I was very happy with my first Savile Row suit. But I wanted to make sure, before becoming a life-long subscriber to the Row, that I was completely comfortable in my justification for doing so. I didn’t want to live at the apex of personal tailoring for any pretence of grandeur. I would only want to subscribe to the Row if it provided the best value for money. I decided to return to the same Savile Row tailor. I wanted to test the theory that developing a relationship with one tailor would be of increased value in all subsequent suits. I hoped that continuing with the same tailor would allow him to assess his first suit and make improvements with the second. I am delighted to report that this is exactly what happened. I was surprised at home critical the tailor was of his first suit. I had arrived with a list of points which I wanted to address. He addressed each of my six points and two more which I had not thought of and couldn’t have then understood. I was also delighted to be informed that the tailor had since updated his pattern. The meant a slightly slimmer upper arm, slimmer middle-leg and slightly longer torso. I think this a very good and reassuring sign. The quite unexpected bonus, was that after the improvements for my second suit had been agreed, the tailor offered to take my first suit away and have it altered to reflect all of the agreed improvements. I was delighted! Further to this thread, I am very pleased with my choice of suiting and lining. I think I definitely made the right choice. If anyone has any questions about the suit, a beginner’s experience of Savile Row, or of personal tailoring in general, then please drop me a line any time. I would be pleased to hear from you. Thank you. Melons

I cannot say enough good things about this place! When I walked into Savile Row, I immediately noticed the difference-- the dress samples they have are Red Carpet worthy and the craftsmanship is wonderful versus the run-of-the-mill dresses I saw in other shops. My husband has traveled all over Asia and had suits made for himself in multiple countries and he agrees that he has never seen anything like it. If you aren't really into high-fashion and just have some basic items you want made, you can probably go somewhere else that is a little cheaper; but if you want a complicated outfit or a precise fit, I would go to Savile Row. Look at the samples they have-- specific tailors make the different outfits and if you try to get it made by another, you might be disappointed. I had two suits, three dresses, two pairs of pants, and multiple shirts made at Savile Row and am thrilled with the way they turned out. The staff will fit and re-fit your clothing as many times as you want. We had a girl "assigned" entirely to us who walked us through every decision, every fitting, everything! (Her name was Christa and I highly recommend her). My only warning is: GO PREPARED. You ARE the designer. This is not like picking something off the rack. Know what you want made, what kind of fabric is going to work for that outfit, what colors are going to look good on you, etc. Don't make impulse buys, and don't do what I saw several older women doing, which was: looking at a 25-year-old girl and telling the assistant that they wanted exactly the clothing she was trying on made for them. "It's not going to work!" I wanted to tell them. Choose what's right for your body-- they are amazing tailors, but they can't make you look 25, or change your shape

Would love to rate this place higher as really liked the friendly staff, excellent food and the set-up here, but on both my visits here (admittedly late afternoon) it was too quiet to give the place some atmosphere. Also they seem to allow smoking inside, which just feels like a backward step to me.

I too went with high expectations after looking at the website. We went on a Sunday afternoon and got the 'family-deal' which was good value for money. The place was empty which surprised me. I was expecting a 'sunday-afternoon' crowd, but nevermind. The BBQ beans were good and good portions. We all agreed the ribs were good and actually ordered more. I like creamy coleslaw and not the vineger type they served but it was OK. The cornbread was OK, but way too sweet. Overall we all liked it, but it's a bit far to me to travel.

On my recent discovery of Silom village, the Thai girlfriend and I decided to dine at one of the 2 restaurants located there. We opted for the Silom Village Restaurant (as opposed to the 'Ruen Thep' restaurant). From what I could make out, the restaurant has 2 or 3 different seating areas all on the ground floor of the village. We decided to sit relatively close to the stage, where Thai music was played on the Ranad Ek (Thai xylophone) and Thai dancing was performed. All the dishes we ordered were tasty and very nicely presented. We ordered Shrimp cakes, deep fried bubble fish?? (that's what the menu had it down as anyway), a seafood hotpot, and the fantastic deep fried shrimp meat served with plum sauce, followed by a banana split to share for dessert. This little lot, along with 4 (non alcoholic) drinks came to around 1,600Bt. The final bill was bumped up by the 10% service charge and 7% Government tax being tagged on at the end. I don't care much for restaurants that carry out this practice. One other small gripe I have is that the hot towels offered to us, normally something I would consider to be a nice touch, were also charged for on the final bill. On the plus side, there is a vast menu of almost every Thai dish imaginable, along with some Japanese and spaghetti dishes, steaks, and even burgers. The drinks were also reasonable with cocktails at 130Bt and a large Singha beer running at 140Bt, a jug of Singha draught was 180Bt. I also noticed that you could take your own wine for a corkage fee of 200Bt per bottle. It's a nice place for tourists to go, the food and entertainment is good, but I know enough nice restaurants located closer to me, serving equally as good food at a more favourable prices for me to be returning here soon.

What can I say about this pub that hasn't been said already, apart from it's all true. I worked in Bangkok last year and visited it virtually every day, and had Christmas dinner there as well. Great staff, service is great and a real home from home. The bands they have are very good and don't drown out your conversation, if you haven't been yet, make sure you do sooner rather than later.

I am always looking for new areas, places or food. So when I heard about this place I thought I would pop in and hang out. The area - Sun Square is not a bad place to chill but no one seems to know about it. The restaurant itself is pretty cool but it was a nice day so we hung outside. The snack menu is cool and we tried some things off of it - the main menu just looked too pricey for the portions we were seeing with the snacks. The finnish pastie was tasty - no complaints there. The coffees were great as well but the toastie was not so good. I figure it was a grilled sandwich but it was just toasted bread with processes cheese and not so great meat. The desserts looked good and I will probably be back for the pancakes and coffee but not sure on the mains. Service is pretty lacking and could be improved. Maybe this is just the fits and starts of a new place and I hope the service improves since it is a nice place to chill.

Im a big fan of the Coyotes in Sukhumvit so wanted to try this place out. The Sukhumvit Restaurant has LadiesNight on a Thursday, where they drink for free until 8pm. I had a first date with a girl in Silom so thought I would take her here, ply her with free booze and see what takes. Only after we sat down I was informed they dont have a ladies night in Silom. Bollocks. It was still HappyHour so I ordered 3 beers and got 3 free. Order some Quesedillas which were really good - much better then the ones I had in Sukhumvit. She had some sugar-ladened Tequila cocktail which tasted like hell. Will return if im in the area, but it wont be for a non-existant ladies night

Was in Silom last night, and decided to duck in and grab some food, as it'd been over a year since my last visit I had ChickenTikka Masala w/ chips and it was awesome. I washed it down with 3 pints of Tiger, and 2 bottles of SanMiguel, which all in, saw me for about 700baht Im not a fan of live bands in pubs at all, but the guys onstage were good, and weren't deafening, which is common in BKK
