Saw Avatar here. The film was so long that they had to switch to another camera about 2 hours in. The switch was not so graceful. We sat in the dark for about 5 minutes and then the rest of the movie played. Unfortunately, it took about 15 minutes to get the audio right. It was choppy and poor quality. Very poor job and it almost ruined the movie. I couldn't believe they had to switch in the first place. They must have some old equipment. When it's working though, the video and audio are fine.

Once a week, I enjoy having farang food. I first visited Outback on a quiet Friday afternoon in early December when essentially no customers were there. Both the managers came up and introduced themselves to me, the bartender made an excellent drink, the staff took care of the specific order details, and so all around, the experience was excellent and the food was delicious. They even made me an appetizer (at no charge) after I was done with the meal. (Not sure everyone will get that treatment.) I've since been back at night during dinner (they remembered me ... just another farang?!) and I experienced the same friendly, professional pattern from my first visit.

If your looking for somewhere close by to rest up after a day of shopping in Siam Paragon & Siam Centre, or for a bite to eat before going to catch a movie at one of the many nearby cinema complexes, then this place is the ideal get away in the middle of all the mayhem. Sure, there are loads of resturants in the aforementioned shopping centres and around, but Baan Khun Mae offers something a little different.
Once inside, the traditional Thai decor of Baan Khun Mae hits you.
The service staff are among the friendliest, most polite, and efficient, that I have come across in Bangkok.
The menu is vast, it's full of very tasty and beautifully presented Thai cuisine....I always struggle to decide on just one dish and often end up ordering more than I can realistically manage. A couple of my favourites are the chicken Panang and the seafood curry in a coconut. The filled pastry shells are a great appetizer also.
I always ask to sit upstairs as there is often a couple of young girls playing the Khim up there, which of course adds to the restaurants warm ambience.
From memory, many of the dishes run at 130-150Bt, while a small Singha beer is priced at a very reasonable 75Bt.

I joined last week, only on a monthly basis as having just moved here I am unsure if this location will be ideal for me. I went in on the basis of the free 7 day offer on their website, only to find that this was offered to Thai's only. They were more than happy to offer a life time membership though. Go figure.
The gym itself is very well equipped and very well staffed and they offer a very good level of service. My main gripe is that I used to paying a hell of a lot less for a like facility in the US. What I wouldn't give for a planet fitness.

Every city needs a place to see independent films. The lido is one of the last places in BKK to see them. The place is not amazing and could use a facelift but I dont mind it at all.
I like the ticket counter being in one spot, the snacks in another and the theaters all spread out. The seats are not great, the sound is okay and the projection is old skool but I like the vibe.
You go here because the scene is cool and they are the only place to play some movies. The shops and cafes around the floor are pretty cool as well.
Worth checking out for the indie films and the funky siam sq vibe

I have a love/hate relationship with Paragon
On one hand, the place is awesome, as it is crawling with painfully hot uni/office/shop girls, theres a really good and cheap foodcourt (plus loads of highstreet restaurants) in the basement, a swanky but inexpensive cinema on the top floor, a California WOW Gym and a huge department store.
On the other hand, the majority of the shops are super expensive (Prada/Rolex/Bang & Olufsen etc etc) a lot of people walking round with attitudes (despite not being able to afford anything), the place can get super crowded, its kinda hard to navigate your way around, and a lot of tourists with huge backpacks stopping in the middle of walkways with their videocameras out (dickheads)
For a cheap bite to eat and an easy place to meet someone, I like Paragon, but I dont like to spend TOO much time there

This theater has certainly seen better days but I'm a big fan of older movie theaters that have seen better days, especially for matinees.
The negatives are that the place has a musky and damp feel, and if it was crowded the seating would be way too cramp.
The positives are that the theater is HUGE. Actually, a better word is GRAND. There are two levels of seating. Towards the front it's almost level so you may have problems if someone with big hair sits in front of you. Those seats are 100 baht. They also have a rising level towards the back and the seats are 120 baht. Extremely cheap.
They have these two 60+ attendants that look like they've been there since before movies were in color. They are definitely old school. They take your ticket and seat you with a very dim flashlight. I banged my knee once and tripped over a rail on the way to my seat. It must have been hilarious to watch for the folks already in the theater.
The screen is also huge and the sound system is okay. The aircon was also not as frigid as most theaters so it made for an enjoyable experience, especially given the prices.
One thing that was funny was when I bought the ticket the lady asked me where I wanted to sit. Most theaters have the little computer program where you tick the screen to pick your seat. Here, they have a big piece of paper and a pen.
I will return for matinees but given the location and pricing I can imagine it gets crowded at night which would make for a less comfortable experience.

First time I have seen a movie here.
We wanted the VIP theatre but we would not to wait too long so we went for VIP seat in theatre number 4 - I think this is the biggest one they have. It was awesome. Huge seat, massive screen and awesome sound.
It also was not that cold - maybe the room is too big? I would be happy hear with normal seats since the place is huge and the seating layout is cool.
The mento combo was a deal as well.
Overall a great experience.

Cozy little theaters make up the EGV Theaters at the Siam Discovery Center. A great place to watch a movie if you like a smaller theater experience. The place was freezing like almost every theater in Bangkok but an enjoyable experience otherwise.
Chopsticks:
Top notch cinema in terms of comfort and picture/sound quality.
I watched Beowulf in 3-D here, the only place in town with the capability to screen digital 3-D. I'll reserve my comments about the movie itself but the special effects rocked!
Can be a bit taxing to get to the actual theater itself if you're in a hurry just due to the labyrinthine nature of Central World itself
