I've been here many times as the food is excellent. I like the outside picnic tables when the weather is nice. Very nice atmosphere. My problem is with the service..the waitresses are daydreaming most of the time. I literally went to the bar myself for more drinks as they just weren't paying attention.

Visited Hugh's for the first time, as they were putting the new stone floor in, after meeting Hugh while walking by the place. Ordered their Hamburger with the works and home-style potatoes. It was delicious. Very open and airy place, too, so it's comfortable and exudes a tropical feel.

I too went with high expectations after looking at the website. We went on a Sunday afternoon and got the 'family-deal' which was good value for money. The place was empty which surprised me. I was expecting a 'sunday-afternoon' crowd, but nevermind. The BBQ beans were good and good portions. We all agreed the ribs were good and actually ordered more. I like creamy coleslaw and not the vineger type they served but it was OK. The cornbread was OK, but way too sweet. Overall we all liked it, but it's a bit far to me to travel.

As an old timer in Bangkok (30+ years), I'm very familiar with Bourbon Street. I think the food has gone downhill and the portions much smaller. The service is still good. Still, it's the only place I know to get a Chicken-Fried Steak with cream gravy, so I have to go at least once a month.

Had food several times from ChefsXP and it has never disappointed, good, solid American food, perhaps the best in town. Also tried the Mexican buffet on a Tuesday night - offering a wide variety of Mexican dishes, although perhaps not as authentic as those on offer at nearby Tacos and Salsa. The chocolate brownies, part of the buffet deal, were to die for.

I went to this restaurant with high expectations. Word was that it had authentic US barbecue, no regional style specified. Being from the US, and loving most all barbecue-styled cooking, I was eager to try this place. The facility is inviting and comfortable; well maintained and clean. Good place to relax and watch the world go by. The wait staff was exceptional. Friendly, engaging and entertaining. They used the gang-service approach; you didn't have just one waitress, they were a team. And to a person, they were great. Things started to spiral downhill some when the meal came. The food was an exercise in contradiction. I had ordered baby back ribs; I wondered what this dainty concoction they sat in front of me was. They had been trimmed to the point of being scrawny. The loin meat was all gone, and the bones were exposed on the ends as to offer an evolved, polite way to eat ribs. The sauce was served on the side, thank goodness. It was far too sweet for me, and not a smokey, molasses-and-brown-sugar sweet, but a white-sugar-glaze patina-sweet. I pushed that aside after one small taste. What little there was of the ribs was wonderful .. properly done, tender and smokey. Then there was the barbecued beans: the best I have ever had in Bangkok. In fact, among the best I have ever had. But then they served it with an overdone, powder of a potato. I walked out of this place wondering how they could be so bad and so good at the same time. And still hungry. But the bottom line comes down to value; was the meal and experience a good value? No, notwithstanding the superb wait staff and relaxing ambiance, it was not. This restaurant has potential, but for now, I must rate them as not recommended, conditionally.

A well-known establishment serving some of the best American-style dishes in town. It's a bit run-down and in a questionable location but has a very local and comfortable feel to the place. They have an awesome menu. The Cajun food is their specialty but they offer so much more. Service is friendly and the prices very reasonable. They also specialize in American Holidays and Sporting Events. It's number one on the list for the Superbowl and Thanksgiving for instance, although because they are so popular they tend to be packed and will charge a bit more those days. Overall, a great place to have in Bangkok.

I used to go to the Roadhouse quite regularly both for meals and more often drinks. It is a very good bar with a great selection of cold draught beers and good American food (except the sauce on the barbecued ribs is really too sweet!.The bar staff are very good. I drank there quiet often (about once a week) with a group of gay farangs. After about one year I began to observe that the proprietor was friendly to all other customers, except my friends and I. No simple hello when entering, no simple goodbye and thank you when leaving. I went in about 4/5 more times to be sure I was not over reacting and I decided I was not. There was absolutely no impoliteness. But we/I(consciously)didn't exist for him. His choice. So I drink in The Barbican or Duke of Wellington. But if you are straight it's great ! Patrick

Trying to find authentic American food in Bangkok isn’t always easy but there’s one place where you can count on it and that’s at Roadhouse Barbecue, located on the corner of Surawong and Rama IV Roads. This three-story restaurant/bar is home to great American food including barbecue specialties like barbecued ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, barbecued chicken and many more that represent true American barbecue at its best. There’s also a large selection of American favorites from burgers and steaks to soups and sandwiches. But the real stars of the menu here are the barbecued specialties starting with ribs smoked with mesquite wood – imported from the U.S. – and including chicken smoked with hickory wood, pork for pulled pork sandwiches and even salmon smoked with apple wood. You can get a half or full rack of ribs or a chicken and ribs combo dish, all of which are served with potatoes and cole slaw made from an old North Carolina recipe. And although the barbecue gets the most attention, they actually serve more burgers here than anything else. You can get yours with three different kinds of cheese as well as toppings like Grilled onions, smoked bacon, sautéed mushrooms and grilled peppers. Another big favorite is the Buffalo Wings which are on special every Monday night when you can get 20 wings for the price of 10 (170 baht). As for more American food, the menu also contains sandwiches such as a Philly cheese steak, a "Texas-style" beef brisket sandwich, a chipotle pulled pork sandwich, a three-cheese grilled cheese and tomato, a BLT with apple-smoked bacon, a fish sandwich, a grilled sausage sandwich with pepper and onions. Well, you get the idea. They cover a lot of bases here. They're also very proud of their chili and they should be since it won an award in a stateside competition a while back sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International. In addition to the chili pot here there are also a number of soup pots simmering all the time and they’re full of roasted red Pepper and tomato soup, black bean soup and a real New England seafood chowder. There are a lot of other menu items here including steaks, seafood, some pastas and even a great grilled pork chop. It's not all about food here, though. First, there's Thailand’s largest selection of draft beers which also happen to be the coldest in Bangkok according to a magazine poll last year. Next, there's live entertainment almost every night downstairs after the dinner hour. On the second floor is another dining room that can be used for private functions or parties. And finally, on the third floor is Roadhouse’s version of a sports bar with plenty of TV screens and lots of games to play including foosball, video golf and soccer and pool on an authentic Brunswick championship table.

I ate here for the first time over the weekend with friends - we avoiding the generally high prices by taking advantage of a decently-priced set lunch menu. There's a choice of appetisers, pastas, main courses and desserts, with prices varying depending on whether you opt for two or three courses, and whether you order a pasta course or a regular main course. From memory, the prices were 349 baht for two courses with a pasta, 399 for two courses with a main, 449 for three courses with a pasta, and 499 baht for three courses with a main. The food was excellent, and the service exemplary. Not for the budget-conscious perhaps, but a great find for food fans.
